Dirt Moving

As I look out my office window I gaze across North Oak Traffic Way at heavy construction equipment moving dirt and preparing land for a new development. As I understand it there will soon be a Starbucks, McDonalds, Waffle House, and bank on the southwest corner of North Oak and 96th St. Seems like an odd combination but it will certainly provide an appeal to a wide clientelle.

From my former construction career I know that they will first move the dirt to reach the grade necessary for the buildings and parking lots. They will dig trenches and lay pipe that brings in the utilities. They will pave roads for access. There will be contractors to erect the buildings and pave the lots. In the end they will bring some dirt back in, fertile soil, in order to provide for the landscaping that puts on the attractive front for their visitors.

Is there a lesson there for us as we face the new year? Can you push some dirt around that is in the way of God developing a new you? Can prayer, study, worship, small group involvement allow you to pave a new way in your life? How will you bring the fertile soil of faith into your life so that others can find in you a safe and inviting place to explore their faith?
