The Assist

I mentioned today that we are responsible for assisting God in the transformation He is making in our hearts. When we look at others and notice that they are the kind of person we would like to become, and we pray to God, "Lord, make me like her/him" God's response is, "What are you giving me to work with?" Bible study, small groups, Christian fellowship, service in the name of Christ, are all ways that God can use to move us closer to His image if we simply participate.

As I noted, Sally Jo Boline lost her battle with cancer this week. She quietly and peacefully slipped from this world and into the arms of God. Quietly and peacefully would describe her countenance in life as well. If you knew Sally, I hope you'll let her memory become one of those ways that God draws you in.

What reminded me of this was a blog by Ben Witherington, a professor at Asbury Seminary that I often read. Usually he is quite long winded, but here is a peace of poetry he composed that is worth your reflection.
