Goal #1

As I said a couple of days ago, I'm going to post on here my own personal goals for Good Shepherd for 2009.  I encourage you to adopt them as your own and to hold me accountable to work toward attaining these goals.

Mo-Betta - My first goal comes from Ephesians 4:12 which says (in the NIV translation) "to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up."  I read that to mean that the task of the church (and all of us within the church) is to make more followers of Christ and better followers of Christ.  "Mo-Betta Christians."  Which one of those you work on first is not the point.  It's a simultaneous task.  Tomorrow I'll talk about "Betta."  Today, it's "Mo."

One of my goals for 2009 is to grow our worship attendance.  The primary entry point for people who are first exploring a relationship with Christ is through Sunday worship.  In order to make more followers of Christ we need to put an emphasis on opening our worship room doors to an ever increasing number of people.  You have a role to play in this.  For the coming year I'll work with Marsha and the rest of the worship team to assure that we are presenting the highest quality worship experience.  We'll seek to create message series that are relevant and interesting to those outside our walls, as well as those of you who are inside.  We'll do our best to make sure that our hospitality is warm and welcoming.  But here's you're part; invite.  Think about FRAN.  FRAN is your Friend, Relative, work Associate, or Neighbor.  Invite... someone is waiting, hoping you invite them to meet God at Good Shepherd.

From 2004 to 2007 Good Shepherd grew a total of 7.3%.  In 2008 we grew by 11.7%.  My goal is to continue that trend by growing our worship attendance another 10-25% in 2009.

Invite.

(PS (added 1/20/09) Just to give you the hard numbers; in 2007 we averaged 455 in worship, 2008 equaled 509.  The goals would bring us to 560 at 10% growth; 585 at 15% growth; and 636 at 25% growth.  I look forward to seeing the blessing of the new faces God brings our way.)
