Thanks, Good Shepherd

I received this thank you note and since it's for all of you I thought it would be good to pass it along. For those of you who aren't aware, Good Shepherd is a community partner with one of the middle schools in the North Kansas City area. It is a school where a large percentage of the students receive free or reduced lunches. I'm proud of the way that GSUMC responds to the call of Christ by supporting Maple Park Middle School.

On behalf of the entire staff at Maple Park Middle School I would like to take this time to thank each and everyone of you for donating your time and resources to our Holiday Help Program. Again this year I was humbled by the amount of food and other items that you gave to help our families. The baskets were amazing!! The families were truly grateful and there were many thank you's and tears as they came to get their items. These are families that would not have had much of a Christmas at all without your help. We were able to provide food to 30 families which included 74 children!!!

I was reminded this week that it takes the help of the community and not just the school to give these students the best chance at a successful future. I know that the families you are helping are very grateful and to me it is more than them receiving the material items. I think we are making a difference by helping them to see there are people out there who will support them.

Our school feels very lucky and honored to have the connection that we do with Good Shepherd and I hope to see that relationship grow and continue into the future.

Thank you again and Merry Christmas!

What happened to the youth program? I have been coming on and off over the past several years and it seems like it is always different. Also, I hardly see Colene working with children at all. There was this great teacher Mr. Brent and he used to do these awesome food lessons but now my children say he doesn't do them anymore. What happened? Did Mr. Brent decide to quit doing this? It seems like the good things are always done away with a Good Shepherd. Am I confused? Please help me understand because I feel like those in leadership are unapproachable in person.

Dear Anonymous,
I'd be glad to answer all your questions. I'm very sorry that we appear unapproachable, I assure you we don't intend to be that way. Please feel free to contact me at any time. If you like, ask me on a Sunday and I'll give you my personal cell phone number and/or schedule and appointment with you to answer all your concerns and share with you where Good Shepherd is headed. We're not doing away with good things, we're adding more and more all the time.
These questions are important and deserve a personal response.
In Christ's Love,
David Israel
