Today I had the opportunity to lead a two hour teaching time on Worship Planning. I was at the Missouri Conference Local Pastor's Licensing School at Central Methodist University. There were 29 men and women who were seeking to gain a license to serve as a pastor in a local UMChurch. I love to teach, especially when it's a subject I'm passionate about. I hope I did it justice, however in reflection I think it would have been much better to be more nuts and bolts and less philosophical/theological. (Come to think about it, that's exactly what I was complaining about with reference to our own seminaries, just the other day. Oh well.)
My basic outline was:
1) You can't lead worship if you don't love the Lord.
2) Worship must communicate the Gospel message.
3) Worship must be a collabortive effort with lay participants having a say in the planning.
4) Then I went into the nuts and bolts, however I only left about 15 minutes for this part.
Well, I enjoyed it anyhow. Hope they learned something that will aid them in being great pastors in the churches of Missouri Methodism.
I'm off to bed for the night and then a 3 day vacation. See you when I get back.
