The Making (and Maker) of a Movement

Dave Ferguson was at Good Shepherd on Monday night sharing with us his vision for the church he has taken from 5 people to 5000 in the last 15 years. It was an awesome presentation as he and Troy McMahon shared where they are, how they got there, and where they are going. Community Christian Church currently has 8 Chicago locations and are looking toward expanding to 11 in the very near future. Troy is leaving Chicago to become a part of their ever expanding list of affiliated church plants as Troy plants here in the KC Northland.

Dave's whole focus is on reproducing. He holds forth a vision of small groups that reproduce, Christians that reproduce, churches that reproduce, and even movements that reproduce. All the time keeping focused on the main thing, "Helping people find their way back to God." Now I can get excited about that!

Here's my main observation that goes with the title of this post; Dave is the maker of a movement that is already having ripple effects through churches of like mind. Dave will humbly admit that what has happened at CCC is nothing short of a God thing and I suppose he would call God the Maker of this movement. However, like the Wesleys who started a movement that became one of the great evangelistic movements in history, what CCC, David, his brother Jon, and the rest of the leaders at CCC are the makers of a movement that we should be seeking to reproduce in our own way and in our own places.

I haven't figured out how to jump on this bandwagon as a United Methodist, but I will, I feel the Maker calling me to join the maker of a movement that will introduce Christ to people in a very big way.
