1 Corinthians 9 (NIV) 19Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. 22To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. 23I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.
Our end goal in meditation is to become who God wants us to be. This goes beyond asking, “How do I incorporate this into my life?” to the more difficult question, “How can I allow God to incorporate me into His life?” Genuinely asking this question is the end goal of a Christ follower.
Transformation is the movement from knowing about Christ, to knowing Christ, to becoming Christ to the world. When we meditate on the information we find in the Bible, we begin to know about Christ – who He was and what He did and said. When we allow ourselves to be formed by meditation, we begin to know Christ. We enter a relationship with him. Like a friend, we seek his advice and understanding about the world. Finally, when we allow Christ to have control over our lives, we cease to be a free agent and begin to become an agent for Christ in a broken and needful world. One image of this transformation is that we are a window through which others see Christ.
How is the writer of the verses above seeking transformation? What does that mean for you?
