Watch out what you see

At the gym today I was on the treadmill listening to a favorite podcast (look for Catalyst on iTunes).  As I was listening to on the earphones I had 4 TV screens in front of me.  The one on the left was on CNN.  Since it wasn't set to provide closed captioning I couldn't tell what they were saying, so I ignored that screen.  The one on the right was playing Regis and Kelly.  Not my style of show, so I blew that one off too.  The one center left was on ESPN.  Since there were some pretty big football games this weekend there were plenty of images from those games to entertain me.  So I focused my gaze that direction. 

When the commercials came on I glimpsed at the TV on the center right.  It was on VH1 and there was a one of those dating reality shows.  This one was focused on the lowest, most base, of male responses.  There was all the cleavage a plastic surgeon could provide.

I love my wife and am glad to be married to her.  I'm not looking for another relationship.  I also remember that Christ said, anyone who looks upon another woman with lust has already committed adultery in his heart.  My desire is to serve Christ and to live a holy life but my base male nature tends to tempt me to look at women who are flaunting themselves so flagrantly.  It was difficult for me to focus on ESPN, so I had to leave the treadmills and move on to weight lifting in order to be able to resist the the temptation to stare.

This coming Sunday we're going to tackle the difficult subject of pornography.  Think it doesn't affect you?  Think again.  The statistics are staggering.
