Early in my ministry here at Good Shepherd I asked a question during one of my sermons. That question was, "Does it matter that there is a church at the corner of 96th and North Oak?" When I asked that question I had no idea that so many people would latch on to it as a rallying cry for the ministries of our church. Being astute enough to recognize when I accidentally stumbled upon a good thing (or in this case a "God-thing") I took that question and ran with it. Once in a while I hear others asking that question in the midst of the meetings that involve our church leadership. Once in a while I bring it up myself. I don't know if there is any more significant a question to ask as a church body.
Very often someone expresses the hopeful answer to that question in a manner far more eloquent than I. So I thought I would pass along this link. Our Missouri Conference Bishop of the United Methodist Church has a wonderful way with words and I think this time he has very much expressed what I hope is our growing answer to the question at hand.

This Sunday I will be asking that question again, focusing on the implications of the question in the current economic environment. I look forward to sharing this message with you.
